I create visual art under the name Paisley Marten Studio, producing original painting and photography shaped by texture, movement, tonal balance, and emotional restraint.
My work favors quiet gravity over spectacle, suggestion over explanation, and psychological presence over explicit narrative. Across subjects and styles, I am drawn to images that do not demand attention but reward sustained looking.
Paisley Marten Studio also honors my Irish maternal legacy and the artistic inheritance that shaped part of my family history. My biological mother was a gallery artist and regionally recognized wildlife painter, and documented family lines and DNA connections link my lineage to artists and arts figures including Agnes Martin, Alfred H. Barr Jr., and Jackson Pollock.

I do not treat those connections as status or mythology. They serve instead as a reminder of inherited standards: seriousness of practice, restraint, discipline, and the expectation that the work must stand on its own under quiet scrutiny.

My influences are methodological as much as stylistic. I am drawn to the quiet authority of work that does not perform for attention. Influences include Frida Kahlo, Evelyn De Morgan, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, Odilon Redon, Richard Diebenkorn, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Fernand Khnopff, Claude Monet, and James McNeill Whistler.

For me, visual art is another form of ethical attention: a way of looking closely, withholding excess, and letting the image carry what words would overstate.
